First Sunburn of the Year

I LOVE SPRING BREAK!!!!
It's Wednesday, the sun is shining, it's 87 DEGREES and we decided to head out to the lake. I packed lunches and snacks, told the boys to put on their suits (they all said they didn't want to) and we headed off to the Dollar Tree to get kites and sand buckets. Adeline was at her babysitting camp at the Red Cross (I'll have to write about that later...how awesome is that!!) and Zoe was home asleep while Thad worked so it was just me and the boys. When does that ever happen???
After our stop, we finally made it out to our old beach Little Sandy. Now that we have our boat we don't usually go to Little Sandy, and it was so much fun being back there! Talk about bringing back the memories! We used to hang out at that beach ALL THE TIME when Adeline and Jackson and Miles were little. We would sit our chairs right in the water and talk and hang out while the kids played. Sandi, Heidi, Tera, Tasha....those were the days! I think even Lillie came a time or two, but she got a tick on her and I don't think she really liked it! I remember one time Jackson (or was it Miles???) fell asleep in his life jacket so I tied him to the chair and he floated in the water and took a nice long nap! Awesome!! We would make 10 trips from the car to the beach with all the toys, chairs, playpen, food, life jackets, towels, kids.....but it was sooo worth it!
So here we are, back at our little beach. I only made ONE trip from the car to the beach. The kids carried their own toys, I had just a small ice chest of food and drinks, I didn't bring any towels down to the water since they weren't swimming, and I had a nice fold up chair in the bag over my shoulder to sit in. Even Marley was SMILING and having a great afternoon!! The kids played baseball, made sand castles and flew kites......

But what is a Balkman trip to any kind of water without the kids getting WET while fully clothed??? Remember I told them to put on their swim suits, but nobody wanted to?? So baseball turned into fetch, the ball ended up in the water, and the rest is history!

We did have a scary moment when a SAND MONSTER tried to take over the beach, but then we realized it was just Jackson! :)

Thad and Zoe came out after a couple hours and Zoe had a great time sharing snacks with Marley and playing. She even ended up in the water, but since it was cold so she was a lot smarter than the boys. She got naked first, just went in up to her knees, and put her nice dry clothes on when she was done!

Since it's ONLY Spring Break, I wasn't rally thinking suntan or even sunburn and I totally didn't think SUNSCREEN! It didn't seem that hot when we left the house, I didn't even put on my suit to work on my tan! But by the time we left the lake everyone was looking a little red....and by that night we were all VERY red! I felt so bad for the kids. And I couldn't find any aloe vera gel at home anywhere! I know we had a huge bottle of it somewhere...... Thad got a new bottle, we smothered the kids in it, gave them Ibuprofen and sent them all to bed! What a day! I LOVE SPRING BREAK!!!!

Wow, bummer that we didn't get your phone call! We'll have to go there again someday. I'll sit by you and hang out, even though all your cool friends have moved away. ha ha

Oh the memories!! Thanks for sharing this post. I miss our Peeps. I was there the day of the nap on the Lake. LOL. I wish I was there...glad you had fun. I was also there the day Lilly got a tick...she left and never returned. LOL. I remember that Sandi always went around cleaning all the trash in the area...she rocks.
Thanks for the reminder to buy new sunscreen and put it in the car. Love you Amy, hope you had a great birthday!
