I swear the computer has some kind of GPS system so as soon as you sit down and touch the keyboard, some kind of alarm goes off in every child's mind!! It's even worse than getting on the phone! It NEVER fails that as soon as I sit at the computer, you can bet Harrison will be walking up the stairs. Mom, can you turn on a show. Mom, can I have a snack. Mom, I want a drink. Mom, what are you doing. And of course he doesn't just come and ask....he turns the chair, pulls on my arm, climbs into my lap and turns my face to look at him!
So today was no different! Harrison and I had been outside and when we came in I came upstairs to get a phone number off the computer and make a phone call. I swear I wasn't in the chair more than 10 seconds and here he comes with a big container of YOGURT in hand! "Mom, I want some of this!" "Harrison!!! I just sat down at the computer! Put that back in the kitchen and then come and ask me." (He takes the lid off) "Harrison! Put the lid back on it, take it down to the kitchen and I'll come down as soon as I'm done!" He takes a step down the stairs and I hear plop, plop, plop, plop.....I look at him and say "Harrison....did you just drop that down the stairs?" I didn't have to ask, his look told all! The eyes dropped, the lower lip came out and he didn't say a word! I looked down the stairs and there is a cup of yogurt on each step, down each banister pole and across the floor at the bottom! Seriously! Couldn't he have brought up a loaf of bread??!! So I send him to time out in a chair and grab a rag to clean up the stairs, and finally got back up to the computer to find my phone number! I still need to make that phone call......
If anyone has something to disable the "I'm sitting at the computer, come and find me now!" I would love to find out where you got it!!

my kids have the same alarm! even the older ones!! They don't want to even have any thing to do with me until i sit at the computer! maybe we could use this as a tool for family bonding?!
This computer alarm must be intertwined with the "Mommy is sitting on the toilet" alarm too. Because that one sure never fails at my house! Mommy's aren't allowed a moment to themselves you know.
oh amy...i laughed so hard reading this! I totally know what you're talking about...mine is more when I get on the phone, my boys thinks that it's a free ride to do anything they want when I'm on the phone! UGH!!!
You gave him a time out after he made "the face"..... are you heartless? I have seen that face, those lips, that sad cry..... wow that must have been QUITE a mess.
The alarm is disabled at midnight.... that's when all the good computer time starts. You just have to be able to stay up this late..... which I know would be extremely hard for you. ha ha :)
